How we work
When you work with us you will be part of a close-knit group of like-minded authors. You'll offer your own skills and expertise and, in exchange, will be supported in the areas that you're not as familiar with. Working with us is a partnership - we promise to support you but you need to put in the work too.
We're not a hybrid or vanity press. We want to empower you to take full control of your own work and to reach your potential as an Indie author. Rather than paying for editing, cover design or typesetting as you would with a vanity press, if you choose to work with us, you will provide your own skills and expertise in exchange for ours or that of other Protea Press authors. For example, if you've got a great eye for detail but struggle with cover design, through our community, you can link in with someone who is an amazing designer but needs help with their proofreading.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to pay to have my book published through Protea Press?
We will never ask you to pay us to publish your book. We believe in using the skills of our Protea Press authors to provide editing, cover design, social media strategies etc and you will be asked to provide your own skills and expertise in exchange. The only instance where you may pay for support is if you, yourself, choose to utilise external editors, cover designers etc.
When are you open to submissions?
We only have two submissions windows each year. To find out more about how to submit to us, click here. Please note that any manuscripts that are submitted to us outside of this window won’t be read. Instead, you will be asked to re-submit when our window next opens. We will not keep your submission on file, it will be your responsibility to re-submit.
Do you provide feedback to manuscript submissions?
We believe that every author should be given feedback on why their submission will not be taken forwards and therefore we provide personalised feedback to every submission as to why it has not been selected.
How can I support Protea Press?
The biggest thing you can do to support us is to follow us on social media and promote what we are doing. Word of mouth is so important for the promotion of new books so please do share if you have enjoyed our books. One thing to note is that negative feedback can be incredibly detrimental to a book’s overall success. We know that not everyone likes every book so if you haven’t enjoyed one of our books please opt to not review it at all rather than leaving it a poor review.
