Mission
​Our mission is to publish excellent and original stories whilst supporting and nurturing the talent that write them. We aim to redefine independent publishing in a flexible and cooperative way, that brings authors together as a community.
​​​Our Story
It all started with our love of writing.
We met at our local writers’ group, sharing our progress and offering each other encouragement and support on our journeys to becoming published. However, as every writer knows, it's a lonely path and we felt as though we were walking in the dark with limited feedback to guide us and no one to tell us if we were on the right track.
Then, in early 2024, we came across the concept of author collaboratives and realised that, between us, we had the skills, experience and passion needed to take our manuscripts from drafts to published books.
Working together, we polished our manuscripts, designed the covers and researched printing options before publishing our press's very first books in October 2024.
But we didn't want to stop there. We know there are many writers out there just like us. Writers who have a finished manuscript and the enthusiasm and drive to publish and promote it but lack some of the skills needed to bring all the elements together. We wanted to reach those writers and to offer our support.
It was then that Protea Press was born.​​​​​
What Do We Do
We will be offering a wide range of services to help Indie authors grow and develop. This includes working with writers to help them publish their work through our Press as well as bringing Indie authors together to promote, champion and learn from each other. We will also be arranging writing workshops, retreats and offer coaching for writers. Check back here to find out about our current offers.
